I probably have a squareback right side rear door hinge. Let me know if you
want me to dig for it. You're correct that this is probably the only way to
correct this problem.

The important thing to understand is that those torsion bars are really strong
and you can lose a finger or 3 in the blink of an eye if you have a careless
moment. You have to be really prepared, and you will need to fashion some kind
of special tool to pry things. A large screwdriver is not sufficient. You need
something with a kind of hook on the end so that the torsion bar can't slip
away from you.

sounds pretty scary.

Am I mistaken, or is there no removal procedure in the bently for this?
it shows how to remove the "rear hood hinge" but that looks to be on a
fastback, and looks very different from a square. Then it shows
how to remove the "rear luggage lid" which is a square, but doesn't
show how to remove the hinge parts.

Given the risk of fingers I would really like to get a good understanding
of this procedure before I attempt it.
