Re: [T3] window rubber

Russ' site describes the process (of course!). You can use cord about 1/8"
diameter, but very thin string or cord is likely to cause damage to the rubber
edge. When you remove the cord, pull along the inside face of the glass,
keeping more or less at right angles to the seal. Go easy where the rubber ends
join so the cord won't cut down into the join, which should be at the top of the
opening. Effectively, you are peeling the rubber back towards the glass so it
can move from being outside the body lip to being inside.

Apart from the laminated front screens, the other glass in most cases is
tempered and can even be pushed out with foot pressure (have a catcher
outside!). In the UK, most front screens are tempered too, so the rubber is
salvageable if it's worth using again.

For lubricants, don't use grease or vaseline (oil-based, and will affect the
rubber and maybe stain the headliner) or kitchen detergents (bulked up with
salt). I use soap. Some people have suggested KY jelly (whatever that is!).

As it's going in, make sure it's even in the opening. While the lubricant is
still moist, it's surprising how much it will move with the slapping technique.

installed new rubber and have tried six times to install but I'm getting
frustrated and don't want to break the glass. Any advice will be appreciated.
