I find that the main problem with points is a distributor cam that is worn and rough. Once this happens, the points' rubbing block wears quickly and you can't keep the points in adjustment. This can be fixed with a dist rebuild, which is cheaper than an electronic ignition. Once you have a good cam in your dist, the way to KEEP it good is to clean and grease it at every tuneup. Don't let abrasive dirt build up on it. Even if you don't replace the points, clean off the rubbing block and put a dab of fresh grease on the cam. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
