He's charging me $33.34 to make 2 keys on original blanks and mail them to me with USPS delivery confirmation and PayPal fees. I thought that was a bit high, and I didn't even need the original blanks, but I went for it anyway. That's probably not bad considering that he sells the original blanks for $10 each. I would think that changing everything over would cost a LOT more than that. It's a lot of work to rekey ignition cylinders and rear door cylinders, but side doors are pretty easy. I'm not sure I understand your problem. You should have just one key per car. If some of your locks have been replaced, I'd just get each car fixed so that each just required one key again. This should be much cheaper. Most commonly I find that all the locks are still alike except for the driver's door, which wore out and was replaced at some time. Or are 2 keys "way too many?" I've got 5 cars, and they turn over occasionally. I take any OE keys that I have for any car and store them somewhere safe. I only carry copies in my pocket. I also record the key codes in case I need to have a key made. I try to avoid having copies made from copies or even from worn originals. It's best to just have a locksmith make proper keys from the code so that you don't copy the wear, too. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
