While under my orange '71 this weekend I noticed that one of the elbows that delivers fresh air into the heated air mixer boxes to either side of the tranny nose was loose. It's supposed to have a screw there to keep it attached, but the only thing holding this one on was the ~1" hose there. I've found this screw missing on at least 4 cars now, and I think I've sold at least 2 elbows to people who had lost theirs when it just fell off, presumably due to a missing screw. I think they have all been on the right side, and they have all been '71s. It looks like there was an assembly line worker there for awhile who just couldn't keep up, or didn't realize what he was supposed to do, or something like that. I've seen 4 of these screws missing myself. This one was a May of '71 while one of my earlier cars was a very late July '71. I had another early '71 which was NOT missing the screw. How many of you out there have also come across this? Were any of these on years other than '71? Were the missing screws all on the right side? For the rest of you with '71s, this is something you might want to check, before you lose that elbow. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
