Hi Jim, I agree to get your car out of there ASAP. My buddy has dealt with this with a tractor that he has been waiting for for a couple years. He stops by to see the progress and finds his parts on other tractors being worked on. Make sure that you get ALL your parts back if you go with another shop. I would stop by tomorrow and make sure to see your car. You also will need receipts concerning your $1200 and where it was spent. I would assume they will come up with many ways that it was spent so you wont get it back. If they are not there then you need to start looking into the Better Business Bureau or some other authority to get some response. The bummer is that it comes at a bad time. Just make sure you either see it in progress or you get it back in your possession.
