I'm finally back home; actually got in wednesday evening and went to work today, thursday. I spent an extra day getting home, taking a side trip to my parent's home in east central Indiana. I took a rather "scenic" route both there and back, and I'm still not sure of my total mileage. As always, I forgot to set my trip odometer when I started off, so there's some uncertainty. I wrote down my mileage at my first fill-up of the trip, which was somewhere in northern Illinois, but I'm not exactly sure where. At any rate, my total mileage was somewhere over 2100 miles. I remember that I checked the oil at that first fillup and found it low, but it had not been checked before I started. The rest of the trip saw absolutely no change in the oil or ATF levels. I still need to figure my gas mileage, but it was better going east with a tailwind than coming home into a rather strong headwind. Speeds ranged from 65 to 85, except for the occasional traffic bottlenecks where there was construction. I didn't have a single car problem the whole trip. ;-) I do have a lot of wind noise from the driver's side door, however. I need to adjust how it sits on it's hinges. Pretty minor stuff. Speaking of hinges, I've always wondered about the fact that the hinges and their bolts are all painted over from the factory. This has to mean that the doors were bolted on and adjusted before painting and that ALL the door parts had to be added afterwards, without removing the doors. It sure seems like it would have been a lot easier to assemble the doors if they were off the car. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Shameless link for search engines: http://listarchive.type3.org ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
