Well, I was able to look at the car today on the outside. I drove over to the person's house, but they weren't there. I looked around the car: The back is a little rough. It has been hit in the back, or backed into something. Someone added some exterior latches on the hatch. They almost look like something for a house window. The paint is in fair shape. Other than the rear bumper and the body above the bumper, it is strait. The front is in good shape, except at the bottom of the body. One other oddity is someone added round reflectors at the bottom of the front fenders. Like the kind that are on a post to mark rural driveways. No noticeable rust in the usual places like under the headlights and at the bottom of the front fenders. The bottom of the window looks good too. This car is a European version, and has amber top tail lenses, side markers, and "Variant" and "VW 1600" script. Both in good shape. The interior looks very, very worn. Headliner looks good. The seats are darkened and discolored. This is the first time that I've looked up close, and actually looked at the interior, although only through the windows. This car has a piqalle (sp) interior! Yep, red dashpad, steering wheel, steering column, and all of the panels are red. The seats may have been red, but they are sooo darkened with dirt/wear it's hard to tell. It has the original mat in the cargo area, and looks to be in good shape. The interior is really rough, it's had a lot of use as a car. The steering wheel is very warn, and much of the red color has been rubbed off and other colors (white-ish gray) are showing. The ignition switch in the column is missing, and someone has mounted an ignition switch under the dash, to the right of the column. I called the number and left a message while I was in his driveway, hopefully I can look inside and see what the floor and interior looks like up close tomorrow morning. -- Phillip Bradfield Member: southern oregon vw club: http://www.sovw.com rose city volksters: http://www.rosecityvolksters.com ddb: http://www.theddb.com 1969 Variant - Savanna beige, Type 4 2.1l (soon), speedster soon to have a bus dash 1968 Variant - Granada red, 1835 with dual 40 Dellortos, with 67 euro fenders 1963 1500 - Ruby red, 1600 with dual Solex carburetors, soon to be full automatic! 19??
