Cranking the engine with the starter will often build up enough oil pressure to 
turn off the oil light, but it will NEVER turn off the generator light. That 
can only happen once the engine is actually running without the starter.

I suspect your memory is just playing tricks on you, due to how quickly the car 
would once start and how quickly the light then went off.

That was originally the other way around, but this will work until you try to 
install a replacement sensor.

I do all my email answers off line, so it is difficult for me to refer to 
photos to answer questions. I know that it is sometimes difficult to put what 
you see into words, but it's a good exercise for your mind.  ;-)
