All I have right now is an "educated guess". I *strongly* suspect that it was some residual oil on the exhaust manifold from the (recently fixed) leaking V/C gasket, but until I get into it later on I'm not sure. The fire melted some wires, a solenoid, some vacuum lines, the rubber portion of the braided CIS high-pressure hoses, and the timing belt .. ah well, the timing belt was due for replacement anyway. =) It's repairable -- I just got back from the junkyard, scavenging sections of wiring harness and the CIS hoses.. whee. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
