I suppose with spare pieces of glass, it's not so heart-stopping (I've about 8 screens, mostly toughened, in the attic, plus all the glass from two Variants and a couple of Fastbacks). I haven't tried it with any tool, but I guess a plastic rod might work. The rubber is on the edge of the glass so by definition, you can roll it down over the edge to open the slit. I push in the metal trim by stages, concentrating on maybe six inches at a time (more on a straight section) so nothing gets bent sharply downwards. It's not something I do often, but I've not had problems with it. Dave.
