While I don't see anything wrong with this method, I've never done it this way 
and never had a problem. The tempered glass is just so strong that you really 
can't break it.

The only windshield I installed I was so concerned about the process that I 
hired a pro to do it. He agreed that the windshields were much more fragile, 
but he installed mine by basically "slapping" the glass with his open hand. 
This in addition to the wrapped cord, of course.

It's important that the cord also be lubricated, and a larger diameter cord is 
less likely to cut into the rubber seal. I made a mistake on my first efforts 
and used too small a cord.  ;-(   The larger cord also holds the groove in the 
rubber open, making installation easier.
