Re: [T3] For want of a stop plate...

Hello-

Going by memory here... it looks like a piece of ~14ga. steel sheet metal
bent into an "L" shape. The longer part of the L is probably ~1.25" long
and the shorter part is probably ~0.50" long. The "thickness" of the L is
probably ~1.50" or so. On the long part of the "L," in the middle, there is
a slotted hole that runs from nearly the intersection of the long&short
parts to the tip of the long part. The width of the slot is about 11/32"
(big enough to fit an 8mm stud nicely). Add to this an M8x1.25 nut and
"wide base" washer and you're good to go!

Install with the long part of the "L" on the floor, with the short part
sticking upwards and facing to the rear of the car. The short part is the
stop itself; the long part is the mount. Adjust the position in the slotted
hole to your needs.

IMPORTANT, IMPORTANT NOTE: After you adjust the stop, you MUST also
check/adjust the brake pedal pushrod position. Make sure that you still
have some freeplay before the pushrod engages the master cylinder, or else
you will wind up in big trouble. There is a factory spec for this freeplay,
but I don't remember it offhand, and honestly it really isn't that
important... common sense will work just fine here. I set mine fairly
tight, at probably ~1/16-1/8" of freeplay at the pedal, but I'm also a
darksider :-).

DARKSIDER NOTE: If you want your pedals to sit lower, and make heel-toeing
slightly easier, then you may find it prudent to adjust the stop as low
(i.e. "more stopped") as possible whiile still giving enough throw left to
make clutch and brakes work well. Of course, this will require quite a bit
of readjustment on the brake pushrod.

Take care,
Shad Laws
