A little bit of surface rust here is common, but you want to make sure that this isn't a sign of worse things you haven't yet found. Check inside the wheel wells, at the rear of the fronts and at the front of the rears, for places where the metal under the undercoating has rusted away. Use a light and look closely. Look under the back seat for signs of dirt that may have washed in with rainwater that was splashed up into the rear wheelwells. You and your daughter should also make sure you have someone lined up who can do your maintenance and repairs. Mechanics for these old cars are hard to find these days and you don't want to trust them to just anyone who says they can do it. For most people becoming your own mechanic is the best policy. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
