You can look the wire number up in your Bentley manual, which you should have anyway: Volkswagen Official Service Manual Type 3 Fastback and Squareback 1968-1973 published by Robert Bentley, Cambridge, Mass, 1974 ISBN 0-8376-0057-X / LPV 997 383 / VSQU (excellent book, complete and well written) Well, you should, but I couldn't figure them out from there... So off to a different resource, and: Both wires 18 and 31 should be crimped into a single 1/4" female spade connector, which should connect to the solenoid terminal on the starter (the one that gets power when you turn the key to START.) 18 runs from there to the brain to tell it that the starter's turning, while 31 runs to the cold start valve, in case it's cold enough to need the extra fuel, which is unlikely. Make SURE you don't connect them to a terminal on the starter which is hot all the time. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
