	A partial answer...

	I believe that the greener/bluer/purpler the light gets, the more
it's either attenuated or scattered by fog.  As you get
yellower/oranger/redder, the light can penetrate the fog more effectively.

	Red fog lights would be best, but they would get confused with
tail lights.  This leaves the amber as a sort of second-best choice.

	Say, maybe this is why stop lights are red?  No biggie if you
don't see the green until the last second, but we want you to see the red
light as soon as possible?
