It has a very pronounced upward stroke before descending - they look more like a '7' to me. That reminds me of an episode in the '70s when I looked through some VW parts that a woman had after her VW-enthusiast husband had died. There was a Beetle engine, number (I thought) 7xx,xxx. Quite early, I thought, maybe mid-'50s, but why was the coil on the far side of the fan-housing? I told a local VW expert and he managed to keep his eyeballs from popping out. I had been deceived by the 7; it was actually a '1', and the engine it turned out was from a 1942 Schwimmwagen. The coil was apparently put the other side to protect it from splashing. The good news is that it's now in a 1942 Schwimmwagen, but I expect the expert made a bit on the deal! Dave.
