The latter is what I'm used to seeing, but I'm in the US where the 4-way hazard flashers were standard. The rectangular box had 3 terminals in 68 and then a 4th was added in 69 when everything got ground wires. There are both Bosch and SWF versions of these. My guess is that this is what you want. It mounts by a large sheet metal screw that screws up into a hole in a plate under the dash.
