Jim, Dave, Steven, etc. Trying to find the right parts for my car is enough to give a saint a screaming fit. The main problem is that the '69 had a different electrical system in some ways to anything else; it seems to made up of bits and pieces taken from whichever parts shelf happened to be closest. There also appears to be no wiring diagram in existence that exactly fits a 1969 automatic Type 34, so I have had to improvise a bit and hybridise two or three different wiring diagrams. the miracle is that everything works extremely well. > Both the 411C and the correct 311A part have the clip on top to mount in a > punched hole in your sheet metal. They are the only 2 relays to my knowledge > that have this clip. The Type 34 parts book gives 311 941 583 as the headlamp dimmer relay up to 1968, and 111 941 583 for 69 only. I am using a 411C relay that is cube shaped with no clip on it. And yes, I can flash my lights when the headlamps are off. With the flasher relay the situation is even more confused. It gives both 211 953 183A and 211 953 215C for '69. The former is a large cylinder, the latter a flat plastic box with four terminals.that screws to the bulkhead. This is downright weird. My understanding of it is that the former is an indicator relay only (2x21W), while the latter is can handle emergency flashers(4X21W). This raises questions as to whether all 69 Type 34s had emergency flashers - I understood that they did. I actually managed to buy one of the cylindrical indicator relays very cheaply on eBay, and it seems to cope with the emergency flashers with no problem (except that the emergency flashers flash with a different rhythm to just the indicators), so go figure. I also have a small modern Hella cube that works very well, but looks, well, . . . modern. It is easy enough to find parts that work, but really difficult to get the correct parts, because it is so difficult to know what the correct parts are. As for the fog lights relay, I am using a generic standard relay that I bought in a car parts store and it works fine, but I would like the proper part. I am using exactly the same part for a horn relay, but I bought what the was claimed on eBay to be a proper Karmann Ghia horn relay, so we'll see when it arrives. > I have a number of fuse box covers here. . . . As for the fuse box cover, I don't really care what symbols it has on it, as long as it fits. > The bottle might be the same as used on 68-70 type 3s. I only know its part number. I am currently using one from a Beetle.
