I don't think dirt would get in there unless you drive on a lot of dusty/dirt
roads. I have several of these that I bought for my old bug a few years ago,
but shipping across the pond might get pricey for an item that costs $.95 from
RMMW. You might want to try a couple of different suppliers before bodging
something, but I wouldn't plug it completely though. These things are very soft
and thin, like a bicycle inner tube. The US bound cars added a piece of hose
here and dumped those fumes and oil droplets back into the crankcase. I hope
