Hello, I am new to this mailing list and would like to introduce myself. I just bought a 69 fastback today and hope to give and receive valuable information here. I have been into vws for years now and have owned almost the whole range. this is my first type3 and it is a very cool little car. I have had many bugs and a handful of busses and 3 Things. I cut down the numbers when I started back into motorcycle riding after a few years off from that hobby. (I noticed someone on this list is also into old goldwings, I have a 75 and a 76 GL1000). I still have a 73 Thing that is in the body off stages right now cuz I am replacing the floor pans this week or next, hopefully. I have rebuilt a couple 1600 and replaced floor pans and heater channels in my 66 bug. BUT, this type3 is a new animal to me. and it is an automatic. So, I'm sure to have a lot of questions for this list. My first question is where do you all buy your parts? the usual suppliers don't seen to be very type 3 loaded with parts. Like RMMW and such. and, is it feasable to just remove the auto tranny and convert it to a standard 4 speed now before I get started working on this car? I realize you'd have to arrange for the extra pedal and cable. Bet the car doesn't have the clutch cable line and bowden tube on it does it? I haven't looked yet. this car was just such a great deal for the condition of the body and fenders and bumpers and it was almost a giveaway cuz the guy had to move and the car had to go. Got longwinded. sorry. glad to find this list, Stephen Curvey Tallahassee, Florida ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
