Just oil it, In order to get the oil everywhere, I'd mix some gas with it and 
slosh it around in there. 2-cycle oil might be best, because it's meant to burn 
clean. Don't do this indoors!

The Bentley manual also has some suggestions, which may be better.

Once you get the tank installed, just get everything sealed up and get gas in 
it, and that will keep it from rusting, but make sure you fix the cracked 
overflow hose problem or this will just happen again.
