Not sure. You may have to go hunting for an original head. Late FI beetles used a head with a similar boss on the RIGHT side. > 2) Are head temp sensors easy to get? Yes. > 3) What about the fuel pump? Can you still buy the original type? Yes, but they are expensive. I'd go back and get everything you can, including the wiring, the plumbing, the pump, and the gas tank, from the junkyard. Make sure to get the 3 plates that provide the FP mount, also. > 4) I can run a new return fuel line down the side of the tunnel, but I'm a > little confused over where it goes at the front end. reading a recent > thread about fuel tanks, its sounds like I need a fuel injected car's tank > with a return line in it. Yes, it would be best to have the correct FI tank, which has both an outlet AND an inlet, as well as some special internal features. I think you'll have to improvise a new fuel return line in the tunnel. > 5) I had a look for the relays for the fuel pump, but couldn't find them. > Are they located in the fusebox, or hiding somewhere else. The FP relay is under the dash, left side, screwed to the firewall. It has a translucent plastic plug connected to it for 2 of the wires. The main FI power relay is under the back seat and looks just like it. Get both and all the wires related to them. > 6) Anything else I've overlooked? Almost certainly. Pressure sensor? FI distributor? This is a big undertaking and is almost foolhardy unless you are already familiar with the system or have a FI car to look at frequently. Otherwise, you are welcome to ask questions here as they come up. What year was the donor car? Good luck. ;-) -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
