I accept that soft-walled radials would rub the tubes, but I've never had any failures of inner tubes for that reason. They lose a bit more air than tubeless and towards the end of the tyre life you are more likely to find a tyre flat when the thorns or small pieces of glass have worked down through the tyre carcase and punctured the inner-tube - a tubeless tyre often seals around a sharp point, or maybe leaks very slowly. It was possible to buy tube-type radials in the early days (Michelin X tyres eg), but they disappeared after a time. I don't know how different they would have been from tubeless types. Dave.
