Been letting the oil go a bit? ;-)

I do remember one time... coming back from N dakota in 98...  Started hard
when let sit for a few minutes, it always started but took some cranking and
had to hold the pedal to the floor, then one of the kids said "the Fuel
pressure is going all the way to 50!"  Turns out the regulator was bad and
flooding things out, after it started it came right down to the upper 30's
and slowly back to normal.  I replaced it when I got home and havent had an
issue since.

Could this have been your problem too Jim?  Im not sure how long it would
still failed in the same manner though.
