This motivated me to take the production data that we have and put it in a spreadsheet, so I could add up annual totals for cars AND engines. The correct # for '64 comes out to 271,618. It looks like there is an arithmetic error and a "fencepost" error in the number above, unless my microfilm is wrong. There is a bit of a problem with the M240 (low compression) engines in '66-68 as I have no records for about 2 years in either my parts book or the microfilm. I can figure how many were made in total, but I can't tell how many were made in each year. Does anyone know whether there even WERE any M or K engines sold in cars in 67? I assume there MUST have been, but they don't show up in VW's production survey. For '71 I get just over 290,000 engines built, which looks like a reasonable number for the year. That puts an upper bound on the number of cars built in 71. I'm working from VW microfilm circa 1980 and a beat up old paper parts book that was last updated in 72. If anyone has data to add to this I'd be interested in seeing it. I can send out copies of my Excel '95 file (26kB) to anyone who is interested. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
