> Is it just me or does it seem like '71's are more common than all of the One thing I know for sure -- 1971 is my favorite model year for Types I, II, *and* III (at least for U.S. models) when it comes to issues of practicality, economy, cost of ownership, etc. Generally speaking, the main safety implementations have been made by then (3-point belts with good mounts, high back seats, collapsing steering columns, dual circuit brakes)... there are 1600cc engines all 'round, not de-tuned and smogged up... no exotic/rare/$$ "late" parts (Type IV engines, shock absorbing bumpers, etc.)... I like the styling of the eariler models, and I too have dreams of a Type IV engine, but I've always thought there was something special about the 1971 line-up. -Greg (former '71 Squareback and former '71 Super Beetle) ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
