Re: [T3] NOS upholstery material

<x-flowed>Alex at ISP West used to have a stash of NOS VW vinyl that was used on some 64-65 Type 3s. When I was talking to him about painting the car he kept telling me he had it but wouldn't sell it to me. Eventually, after the paint was finished and he could see I was going to do a complete restoration, he agreed to let me have enough to do the seats. I know he had a roll of red mesh, blue cord, and brown cord, and I think there were others too, but this was in 1999 so it may all be gone. You could check in with ISP but if there's any left I bet it's a lot more expensive than it was back then.

The VW mesh vinyl was an early attempt at breathable vinyl that has parallel slits in the vinyl surface that go through to the backing and a printed "basketweave" pattern on the surface. It was also used on Type 2s for a few years and there is a reproduction version being made now with the printed pattern but without the "breathable" part. It has a cool 1960s "vintage" look to it.
