Hi, My name is Kevin-I was on the list a while back with a '67 sqbk. Unfortunately it was totalled in an accident. But I am trying to get back into a squareback. I am looking at a '71, with a dual port, and fuel injection. I have owned a '65 bus for a while...but the type 3 is a whole new beast. Well onto my problem. The squareback I am looking at has problems when you are driving along, and are turning(not neccessarily a sharp turn, just kind of a curve in the road) if you hit any irregularity in the road the front end shakes. This reminds me of my last sqbk which has tie-rod end problems. Well I checked it-and it all looked ok to me. I brought it to the current owners mechanic. He thought the steering dampner looks relative new and that the tie-rod ends look fine. He thought that the problem was the alignment, as evidenced by the scalloping of the treads on the front end. He suggested getting the car aligned(something he does not do). I brought it over, they did the alignment-then Peter (the current owner called me tonight, to let me know he picked up the car, but it still shakes a little on him. Although it is "much tighter". Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking that maybe the tie-rod ends are not adjusted prperly. The Steering dampner looks as though it has beeen replaced relatively recently(all shiny and new looking). Any chance it is not the correct one? any '71 only things I should be loking for. thanks -kevin potential sqbk in San Francisco, CA vw home in Somerville, MA - looking forward to a little road trip... ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
