It seems to me that if you use that kind of air filter you will _only_ have
hot air intake. the stock air cleaner takes in air through a hose from
outside the engine bay. These objects would get air from inside, which would
obviously be much hotter.

I don't know whether this would be a problem., but I suspect it would.
