Some of the stuff I've seen is good in idea, horrible in execution. The PO of Brian's purple Notchback was a body man. Did a good job, too. But when it came to 'mechanics', like the tow adapters on the front bumper, he failed. I could see the logic of the mounting, however, like many PPOW (Previously done Previous Owner Work) the execution appears rushed, not thought out to completion or consequence. I can understand the tranny mount for the Squareback and the UPPER engine mount, however, it looks like it was all designed for an improperly installed tranny. So much work! Come on, removing the black fan housing first just so you have enough space to move the engine back so you can remove/install it? Pah-leeze! It was rigged together. I see the logic but the execution is grotesque! Now, the engine lid was over-sized. This is nice because it made it much easier to get to the carbs and spark plugs...and idea brewing in my mind for several years (just don't have the guts to cut into my cargo deck). Nice big lid. But the rigging that went into it is nasty. Lots of RTV used for sealing and mongo long lag bolts to hold the framing/piano hinge down...yeah, the engine lid stays with the car, can't remove it :-( I think it could've been done better -- functionally and cosmetically -- had the proper time and supplies been used to think things out. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks things out down into the cracks of the details and am thus just overly-critical, expecting too much out of others. I dunno. I look at the time I spent figuring out my gearing, the oil pre-cooler, the alternator, etc., and I am confident that I do a very good job so nobody will say, "What in the Hell was he thinkin'?!". Mostly because I don't want to end up saying that to myself -- which I *have* done :-). I am my toughest critic and not easy to please. In the Navy "attention to detail" was grilled into us and it has stuck with me. I see it lacking in so many things, too. The difference in a quality product/job and that of an 'eh' or okay product/job is in the details.
