<x-charset windows-1255>> How long is it actually safe to leave the ignition on without burning > something out? > Mine was on for about 2 days. It just flattened the battery. I guess if I'd been lucky the points might have been open, but it's probably the fact that the engine always stops in certain positions - ie on a compression stroke. I suppose the points are likely to be closed then. I think with a ballast resistor the current probably doesn't get high enough to burn anything out - just warm up! No problem with mine as soon as there was enough charge back in the battery to start. Actually I wasn't there to see - I pinched my wife's car (well, my/our Golf really) and she had to do the drugs run for the old people (from the dispensing doctor in next village) in the Variant. She complained it didn't accelerate and wasn't comfortable! No pleasing some people. ;-) Dave.
