This thought crossed my mind when I read that the automatic Type 3/34 went from 0-100 kph in 25 seconds :~( How on earth can you get onto a motorway/freeway/expressway without getting killed? Over here, by the way, the merging lanes can be pretty variable in length. On older highways that haven't been upgraded, they tend to be short, but on newer roads much longer, sometimes with fancy arrangements to keep the merging traffic separate for longer. BTW, I saw a nice notchback this evening in Jerusalem. It was parked outside someone's house. Didn't get real close look at it but I'll go back when I get the time and see if I can see it up close.
