I assume these were the 3 piece rings with the little thin scraper rings on either side. Did this damage the cylinder walls? Did it damage the pistons? I've seen that and never found a good cause for it. I would certainly make sure that the TPS is adjusted right and working properly. You just unplug that switch and run without it as a test for a few days.
