The early hinges were a relatively weak sheet metal stamping; the later 
ones were reinforced. My 65 Squareback suffered a folded hinge (caused 
the spring to pop out...interesting sound), and I replaced both of them 
with hinges from a 70s model. No problems fitting them at all.
