> I've been thinking about this; why am I more likely to break a bolt with an > impact wrench than by exerting cosmic forces on it with a 5 ft. breaker bar? Because being a skilled engineer (aren't we all?) you can read the pain the nut is experiencing and decide to heat it up first or use another approach rather than destroy the bolt. The impact driver has no such conscience! To be fair, the impact driver may loosen a nut in a particular situation where sustained force won't, so it can have a role to play. Dave.
