>He suggested welding them and drilling and tapping. Any thoughts. These are -just- thoughts, please take them with a grain of salt!! I've been playing in that general area of my car for the past week or so.. IIRC (depending on year..) the bolts that fix the caliper to the steering knuckle are torqued to 40 ft#. They are not load bearing per say, but logically they experience a lateral thrust when braking, so you want the caliper nice and snug. I won't pretend to know the strength of helicoils, but it seems that having the bolt pulled out is far less of a concern than side to side slop, which I imagine would shear something off eventually. If welding it up, drilling it out & tapping it is what one have to do to get a nice tight fit go for it, but I wouldn't fear the other routes to the problem (so long as they don't involve JB weld <g> or changing the geometery) Seems that welding it up is overkill to me, but if that is what it would take to make you comfortable, by all means do it! That having been said, seems the best resolution to this problem would be yet another, non-worn knuckle (sigh).
