That's exactly how they were used - the printed book had some pages at the front in different languages explaining how to order the items from your local dealer. There is an ETKA CD-rom with the same pictures circulating (illegally!) which has any parts numbers still available, but that's not many. There is a Russian site with the same details I believe. There are a few who have the full parts book or microfische held in the past by all VW dealers, with the numbers, but it runs to about 600 pages, and neither Al nor myself have managed to get more than a fraction of those pages up on the web. The exploded diagrams are very helpful for seeing where bits go, and of course describing exactly which part is needed or being discussed, exactly VW's reason for publishing the exploded diagrams.
