The filter base that Berg sells has the inlet/outlet coming out at right angles to the axis of the filter, but I worked out a nice plumbing arrangement that requires the I/O at the top. Last time I ordered one, he just said that if I'd wait a couple of weeks he'd get that style base in and sell me the kit with the base I wanted. That worked fine. I mount the filter base to the rear mount crossbar. This lets me plumb the whole thing on the bench and install it with the engine. It ends up as a really neat installation, and the hoses are kept short, too. I think I also have to buy some fittings that he does not provide, but that's a small point. I bought one of his pressure relief pump covers, too, for the car I drove here in the winter. That engine is now in Mike W's car in NYC. For summer cars I really don't see the point. The way I see it, if I get in my car and start it up cold and try to drive 35mph down the street in 1st gear I deserve to blow up my oil filter. That may actually prevent my damaging the engine any more. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
