Since the question is being broached, my 69 square is leaking. I tried to find the archive on this question, but couldn't find it. I appear to have water coming in from both the passenger and driver side. The best I can tell/describe, it's above the heater vent control switch; I think that's what they are called. I had the suggestion to clean out the defrost tubes. My car has the vent covers. So, I don't think water could get in there. The leak happens while sitting, even on a downward slope. The water isn't dripping on my feet, it's dripping and running down the interior, right above the heater vent controls. Pick a nice warm day and crawl under there after a rain. Look that area ALL over, you will find at least 3 different places that are supposed to be drains. One is a large flap, one is a rubber tube, and one is an opening, or slit, between two sheets of metal. You should make sure that all 3 are open and clear. You can clear the flap with your fingers, but you'll need a wire for the other two. Clean out both sides while you're at it. I had the same thing on my 71 (RIP.) I finally did what I described above and got a major stream of trapped water out of the slit, from the trapped volume that the bumper bracket is spot welded to. I wish I had done this years earlier, because a couple of years later this section completely collapsed, rusted out from the inside. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
