You mention that you're using the old 69 dist, which is a good choice, by the way, if this is your OE FI dist. But this is NOT a vacuum advance dist. It is a combination vacuum/mech advance dist, and you probably can't use the vacuum part with your carbs, because the vacuum curve probably goes the wrong way. You should check it to make sure that its mech advance is working. It is common for these to rust up and seize, because most folks don't know that they need a couple drops of oil occasionally. With no mechanical advance this will have a hard time getting out of its own way. You should be able to see it advance with your timing light.
