The first is that the 009, by its very design, offers an inferior timing curve (centrifugal only - no vacuum advance). This shouldn't effect idle HCs, though. The second is that most 009s out of the box are pretty sloppy, leading to inaccurate timing. The third is that the Pertronix doesn't help thte second problem much :-). If it's idle HCs you are concerned about, then having consistent timing (i.e. doesn't jump around AND all four cylinders are the same or very close to the same) does indeed help. If you already have that, then you have other things to worry about such as plugs and your fuel system.
