i had the same problem with my '71 squareback out in CA. I can't remember the name of the shop-but the had locations all over CAlifornia. According to their computers a lot of the things you can adjust - were not adjustable. so they didn't adjust them. I went back after reading the spec sheet...checking the manual and talking to the list...the manager was co-operative, he also thought it could not be adjusted-but told me to come back the next day when the "expert tech" was in. I came back the next day, met the tech, explained it to him, and before i could show him my book, he agreed with me. i showed him the bentley manual, and all was good... -kevin somerville, ma '65 kombi '71 sqbk -----Original Message----- From: Steven Ayres [mailto:comwest@att.net] Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2003 11:48 AM To: type3@vwtype3.org Subject: Re: Front Beam [T3] CurtisR=> they (a reputable shop) were unable => to get the front into spec, and cast => blame on my front beam. I've also had a couple of reputable shops give up on aligning my car, and my car has seen several hard hits, including a major frontender. But it's still alignable, and with reference to a good manual I've been able to show a couple of cooperative techs (not VW guys, by the way) how to do it. So my first reaction to this is the expectation that your guys aren't informed of the subtleties of the Type 3 front end, but that's just an expectation. Make sure they've got the right manual (VW, Bentley or Elfrink) and are willing to really look at it. That said, did they tell you exactly what they couldn't get into spec?
