Is > this my only option? A bolt is a good replacement, since the head will keep it from pulling out, but you can ONLY do this with the engine COMPLETELY apart. Otherwise there is a shroud around the oil pickup tube which prevents you from doing this. I actually add these bolts when I rebuild an engine, especially if some of the studs are already loose. I suppose that step studs would also be a possibility. Either way, you have to be REALLY careful to get the new part installed in exactly the right place and nicely perpendicular to the bottom, or you'll have trouble.
