Jim, Does it happen with the engine running, but the car standing still? It only happens when the car is in a gear which pushes the shafts. Does it happen in all gears, including N? It doesn't sound as bad in reverse; but, it only happens D,2,1. Grab the fan housing and make sure that it is still securely fixed to the engine; there should be no play between the housing and the engine case. It is still firmly in place. Turn the engine over by hand, using a wrench on the generator shaft nut, and see what you hear/feel. Is the crank pulley tight on the shaft? Will do this later this week and respond again. Look under the engine, where it meets to the AT. Look up thru that hole. Can you see anything unusual there? Anything loose or broken? Will do this later this week and respond again. THANKS, Jim!!! I appreciate the trouble shooting steps. Not much time during the week to tinker with the car. I will spend some more time on it this week and shoot an email to let you know what else I find. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
