It was a VW mechanic cussing you when he finds THAT distributor after fighting it for a couple hours. DO IT RIGHT, OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL....... end of rant That is one of my pet peeves. It is NOT that hard to straighten/correct the distributor drive gear. If it is a carbed engine, you have to pull the fuel pump and insulator block. Use the snap ring pliers to grab the gear, and slightly rotate it as you pull it up, and don't pull it all the way out of the case. Get it to the position you want it in, and slowly lower it back into the case. If the gear is already out, put a long screwdriver, or a new pencil into the hole, and put some grease on the washers and slide them down into place. Now put the gear into the hole, andå slowly lower it into the engine. Remember, that the gear will rotate slightly as it goes in. I have never lost a washer into the crankcase. -- Russ Wolfe '66 FB MT '71 FB AT '65 Bug (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
