Ok, according to my Bentley ( 68 to 73 Brown cover) the red wire is for the
brake warning light, and the black and red striped one is for the actual brake
lights. These used the 3 prong switches versus the earlier 2 prong switches.
There are 3 wires to the warning light, black (from the fuse box 4th from the
right on a 12 terminal fuse box), solid red from the switches, brown (ground)
from the #31 terminal of the 4 way relay. This was from the Aug 67 (68 to 70
models) wiring diagram. I hope this helps. Like Jim said, if the light comes on
you should already know you had a problem, as the light only senses a problem
(usually after you found out) between the 2 circuits. I think you might have
had the right idea that it was an internal brake light letting you know they
were on??I hope this helps.
