[T3] I've been having heretical thoughts

I took the Fastback out today for a run, had to go to the hardware store 
for some stuff.  So I'm heading out to the car in the lot, and someone had 
parked their Mk.2 Scirocco right next to me .. and I got to thinking. 

I seem to remember that the Passat is considered to be the "successor" to 
the T3, I couldn't help but notice that there's quite a visual similarity
between the shape of that Scirocco and my Fastback.  Am I the only one
who's noticed this?  Or am I just the only one who goes thinking about
weird stuff like that?
