You can glean the resistances, etc from the chart on page 22 of the fuel 
chapter. You would have to figure out the pin numbers from the wiring diagram 
on page19 (which is more correct for a 72 than that shown on page 18.) 

The diagram on page 18 is correct for 70-1. The diagram on page 19 is correct 
for 72-3 from CA, but non CA cars are the same except that they do not have any 
of the exhaust gas recirculation items.

Yes, in most cases you would just hook one side of the VOM to ground, but some 
of the measurements would require you to make a measurement between 2 different 
pins.

Yes, term 31 is the standard German notation for a ground terminal.

In all of this it is important to understand that you can only expect to find 
the source of an intermittent problem if you troubleshoot it while it is in its 
failed mode. If you check it out when its working fine it will seem fine. You 
have to make it fail in order to find it.

I have sometimes resorted to attaching a VOM to a suspected trouble spot in 
such a way that I could simply glance at the VOM when the car failed. This 
would allow me to catch the flaw in the act, or clear the suspect. Either way, 
this can be difficult.
