Let me try to explain again(it is so clear to me-but that is because it happened to me ;) When I tried to put the spark plug back in-it hit something right inside the engine tin. So I stuck my finger in there to see if I could feel anything. There was a stud sticking up-so I grabbed it, and turned it (the stud) until I unscrewed it completely. When I got it out and examined it-it was a stud, with a nut in the middle. I did not touch the nut, I unscrewed this thing by turning the stud. I believe it is a 10 mm stud, but I will need to measure it when it arrives via tow truck later... Thanks -kevin Ps-jim did you ever find those door handles I asked you about? -----Original Message----- From: Jim Adney [mailto:jadney@vwtype3.org] Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2003 4:46 PM To: kguarnotta@usa.net Subject: Re: [T3] spark plug spit out On 22 Jul 2003 at 16:27, Kevin Guarnotta wrote: > I put the sparkplug in the spark plug socket and thought > I would give it a try....but there was something blocking the way...so I > reached my hand in there as the engine had cooled a little by now. I'm not sure I understand correctly. You found a stud and nut in there blocking the #1 SP from going in, but you couldn't remove the stud or nut until you unscrewed the nut. Then you took both the stud and nut out. Is this right? What size stud? I can't think of anything that should be there on that side. If it is a 10mm stud, could it be a broken head stud? I've never seen these break, but I suppose it is possible. The only thing that might be on that side would be the thermostat linkage. That's certainly a possible item to be mis installed or loose in there, but it's also something that you should fix if that's what it is. Otherwise, it just sounds like some debris from a previous rebuild. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
